I remember this song was the first time my long-time guitar partner Dylan Roberts really loved some guitar work that I had done, whereas up until now he did the guitar playing and I did the rest. It was a big accolade as far as I was concerned coz I had spent 3 or 4 years worshipping the way that boy made guitars sing, scream and dance. Also, it was on acoustic guitar which I remember being intimidated by, and the piece developed from nothing at all. I wasn't trying to write a song, it just evolved from recording one line and then adding another and before long I had a full length backing track in need of lyrics. Wierd what the mind unearths several years after recording these songs and hearing them again.

lyrics

Lyrics:

Why are you doing what you do, knowing what you know?
How is it good to see the ‘could be’?
Should we ever grow?
Do you understand what they’ve planned?
Do you need them so that you waver fact for the act?

Friend it’s all a show-time ticks
Pricks make decision round a boardroom
table tops fill of pots, pans, food for the kids
School taught fools talk to a stranger.
Danger never changed, just the pay.

How can you be fine knowing why you’re trying to smile?
When it ain’t easy to watch the circle of life break down.
If we name the stars and fly to put a flag on the moon
Then we can rule them all…
But why would we want to?

How can you learn to live alone loving only dreams?
(Why are you doing what you do, knowing what you know?)
Why do we lay down and die? Is it in our genes?
(How is it good to see the ‘could be’? Should we ever grow?)
When will you wake up and take on the trouble that you’ve seen?
(Do you understand what they’ve planned? Do you need them so…)
Who made the rules to dictate where you go and where you’ve been?
(…that you waver fact for the act? Friend it‘s all a show!)

How can you be fine knowing why you’re trying to smile?
When it ain’t easy to watch the circle of life break down.
If can name the stars and fly to put a flag on the moon then we can rule them all…
But why would we want to?

The honour of creating a soundtrack to moment or memory is one I hope to achieve with you somewhere here in these 13 albums. I've enjoyed living all of them. I hope you will as well. Much love.
