The tune for 'Memories' was from an idea I had on the sax, and after recording it the melody seemed to work as a vocal as well. The lyrical theme seemed a nice way to round off the album, given that the start and finish of the collection both talk of change; and lack of therein. It's probably my favourite song on the album, partly because I was smoking by this point and still get chills that I could reach the high notes in both verses. Don't think I could hit them now. Haha! Nah, it's just a nice song and a nice message. A lot changed between my group of friends and this was my way of saying goodbye before the end while I was still close enough to give them my little cds of little songs I'd made.

lyrics

Lyrics:

You can say what you want about me
But I know where I am and I know where I’ve been.
I’ve been torn into pieces but I’m still standing strong,
And my legacy will live on.
I’ve worked hard to become what you all want to see
And I thank the ones that held me.
How have we laughed and cried so many, many times
Knowing what we know inside.
I’ll hold you in fantasy.

You’re all and more I’ll ever need,
And just because you don’t know me doesn’t mean I’m not here.
I’ll watching you forever, and I don’t know how I know,
But I’m always in your memories.

It’s impossible to say what I wanna say
While I hide behind the bars of a rhyme.
It’s even harder when you don’t even try
To care enough to hear me sing these lines.

There’s so many ways I could take this…
I could talk about the future and the things you’re gonna miss.
I could sing about the past and how you didn’t understand,
But there’s nothing I can do about that.
I’ve worked hard to become what you wanted to see.
It wasn’t easy and it won’t ever be, but I won’t ever stop to cry, leaving everything behind.

I’ll come back for you.
I promise you I will never leave your mind.

You’re all and more I’ll ever need,
And just because you don’t know me doesn’t mean I’m not here.
I’ll be watching you forever, and I’ll tell you how I know:

Cos I’m always in your memories.

The honour of creating a soundtrack to moment or memory is one I hope to achieve with you somewhere here in these 13 albums. I've enjoyed living all of them. I hope you will as well. Much love.
