Guitars by Kevin Round.

Having failed miserably at my first relationship, and watching the undoing of my group of friends in the process, I wrote 'Everything And Nothing' over a guitar riff that Kev (old school mate and fellow rocker on The Son Of Man writing/recording project) recorded at my house during a trip home from uni. It's essentially a diary-entry-song to explain how I was feeling at the time.

lyrics

Lyrics:

Nobody says it all comes easy without having worked real hard
Nobody says the world don’t know me ‘cos my world is in my heart
You’ve got to hold every memory in case you let something go
The first time I heard ‘I love you’ and the last time I told her so.
I’m sitting here with my eyes turning red
Trying to find a note to follow every word in my head
Open your eyes and realise
Everything and Nothing at all.

I’ll always be near to guide you
Even when we never talk I’m watching while you walk
And in every thing you do.
Now I know why I’m sitting at the piano with my eyes going red
Trying to find the note to go with every word in my head
Open your eyes and you see I’m
Everything and Nothing at all.

The clouds roll over the mountains, the wind blows through the trees,
The sun bounces of my shoulders as the rain bounces off the leaves.
I roll up my second smoke and remember days on the sea,
But now my boat’s sitting in the garden and my dog is lying next to me.
The day of change could be a day away
But I’ve talked about that in a song before.
I close my eyes and realise
Everything and Nothing at all

(solo)

There’s something I’ve got to do and I just hope that Kev don’t mind:
I’ve never named her by name but Gemma really changed my life.
I may have got some stuff wrong, I apologise for the pain I’ve caused.
We all knew the group would change but memories are forever more.
I’m at the piano with my eyes going red
Trying to find the right notes for all the words in my head,

And what has changed?

Everything and Nothing at all.

The honour of creating a soundtrack to moment or memory is one I hope to achieve with you somewhere here in these 13 albums. I've enjoyed living all of them. I hope you will as well. Much love.
